Author: Phlebotomy Training Specialists Team

Helping you build a fulfilling healthcare career—one blood draw at a time.

If you’re a military spouse looking to start a meaningful career in a high-demand field, the MyCAA scholarship may cover your entire phlebotomy training. Here’s everything you need to know.

What Is the MyCAA Scholarship?

The My Career Advancement Account (MyCAA) Scholarship is a workforce development program funded by the U.S. Department of Defense. It’s designed specifically to help eligible military spouses pursue education and training that leads to portable, in-demand careers.

MyCAA provides up to $4,000 in financial assistance (up to $2,000 per fiscal year) to help cover tuition, fees, and other education-related costs at no cost to you.

For military families who move frequently, a healthcare career like phlebotomy is one of the most flexible paths you can choose. Phlebotomists are needed at hospitals, clinics, labs, and blood banks in every city, on or near every military installation in the country.

Do You Qualify for the MyCAA Scholarship?

To be eligible for MyCAA, you generally must be:

  • The spouse of an active duty service member in the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Space Force, or Coast Guard
  • Married to a service member at the pay grade of E-1 through E-5, W-1 through W-2, or O-1 through O-2
  • Pursuing an associate degree, licensure, certification, or certificate from an approved institution (like Phlebotomy Training Specialists!)

Important: Eligibility requirements are subject to change. Always verify your current eligibility at MyCAA’s official site or by calling Military OneSource at 1-800-342-9647.

Why Phlebotomy Is the Perfect Career for Military Spouses

One of the biggest challenges for military spouses is building a career that survives Permanent Change of Station. Phlebotomy checks every box:

  • Short training time — Get certified in as little as a few weeks to a few months
  • High demand nationwide — Healthcare workers are needed in every state, near every base
  • Competitive pay — The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports strong median wages for phlebotomy technicians, with continued job growth projected
  • Flexible scheduling — Many phlebotomy positions offer part-time roles and flexible schedules
  • A foundation for advancement — Phlebotomy experience opens doors to nursing, medical assisting, lab technology, and more

No matter where the military sends your family next, your certification goes with you.
