Shireen Spears

Shireen started her very 1st experience in the Phlebotomy field with the help of a family friend, working at Grifols Plasma Center. She started this new journey in 2009 with no medical skill sets, only to flourish in learning Phlebotomy and plasma donation regulations. After 8 long years working at the plasma center, she was ready for a new experience, which landed her at Renown Hospital Outpatient lab. There she learned completely new skill traits from pediatric draws, hand draws, bedside draws, syringe use, blood culture use, and drawing anyone over 69. All this was new to Shireen, given that plasma donation has very strict guidelines in choosing who they allow to donate based off their veins and health history. Shireen spent the next 4 years at Renown until she got the opportunity to work for the VA Hospital. There she got a new experience with in patient draws, from being called to the ER, ICU, mental ward or same day surgery. Shireen has enjoyed teaching what she has learned over the years to students doing their clinical hours at the hospital. She is ready for this new journey of teaching a classroom!
